Waxing
Tired of shaving, tweezing and bleaching? Waxing provides a more precise hair removal option. Enjoy silky-smooth skin for up to 4 to 6 weeks.
Questions about Waxing:
Does it hurt?
Much depends on the skill of your technician, your level of sensitivity and the coarseness of your hair. Many of ArtQuest's customers bring their daughters in for a first waxing because Patsy uses a unique approach, using less wax, making for a more comfortable waxing experience.
Will it make my hair grow back darker and thicker?
NO! If you wax regularly, you will notice that your hair will grow make much thinner and finer that before. Waxing will not change the pigment of your hair.
Will it change the color of my skin?
Waxing does exfoliate your skin, so if you have a tan from the sun or sunless tanning products you skin may be lighter after waxing. Depending on your sensitivity, you may have redness or small bumps that can last about 24 hours.
Shaving gives me ingrown hairs, will waxing?
Possibly. To prevent them, wear loose-fitting clothes immediately after waxing and use a gentle scrub on the waxed area about 3 days after the treatment and occasionally thereafter.
Do I have to let my hair grow out before waxing?
Allowing your hair to grow to a length of 1/4" allows for better, longer lasting results.
Common-Sense Cautions Before Waxing:
- If you have used Accutane or Retin A (common and powerful acne treatments), you must not wax. Both can cause the skin to be damaged during waxing. Please discontinue Accutane for 6 months and Retin A for 3 weeks before your scheduled appointment. Coumadin (and other blood thinners) alpha-hydroxy acids, glycolic acids, hydroquinone, topical cortisone and some antidepressants can cause complications when waxing.
- Do not wax the same day you have done heavy exfoliation (such as any form of dermabrasion, laser resurfacing, peel or skin growth removal). Wait for about one week before waxing.
- If you have a severe cold, do not schedule a lip wax as the skin is more likely to be torn or damaged due to thinning.
- Do not tan in the sun or a tanning booth for 24 hours before waxing.
- Remember that if you use sunless tanning products, waxing will cause more rapid fading.
Common-Sense Cautions After Waxing:
- Avoid exposure to the sun or tanning booths for at least 24 hours after waxing.
- Do not take a hot shower or bath for at least 6 hours afterwards.
- Perspiration can increase your chances of developing a rash, irritation, redness and breakouts.
