Frequently Asked Questions

About Permanent Cosmetics

How is it done?
Permanent cosmetics use tattooing techniques with specially formulated pigments.

Does it hurt?
Thanks to a wide availability of topical anesthetics, most customers rank the experience at about a "3" on a scale of one to ten.

It is very expensive?
Eyebrows, eyeliner and lip liner are $250-$350 each. Full lips are $450 and touch-ups are $50-$150.

Is it really permanent, or will it fade?
The word permanent is used because the molecules that make up the pigment remain in the skin for life even when they have grown very faint. Some people find that their makeup fades after a year, while with others there is no change after eight years. Several factors impact the permanency:

  1. The color selected.
  2. How much time you spend in the sun.
  3. Your individual speed of cellular regeneration.
  4. The depth of pigment implantation.

How do I decide on shape and color?
You know best what suits your face and personality, but I will happily offer suggestions. Skin tone and hair color should be considered when selecting a color. Before applying the permanent makeup, we will draw on the eyebrows or lipliner with a pencil to preview the final effect and to experiment until you are satisfied. Then the pigment is dabbedonto the skin so you can get an accurate look at the actual color that will be used.

What is the recovery time?
The tattooed area will be slightly reddened and swollen for about six hours. Eyelids remainpuffy for 24 hours in about 50% of clients, after which time you may resume use of your everyday cosmetics. At first, the permanent makeup will appear somewhat obvious, dark and intense. By day seven, the epidermis flakes and peels, sloughing off the surface pigment, leaving the color softer and lighter. It will lighten still further before stabilizing after a month.

Will it look natural?

Permanent makeup often looks more natural than regular cosmetics and is intended for a daytime look. To add extra glamour for evening, add a little pencil.
